UCANACT secures €800K to advance brain-computer communication technology

Utrecht, September 15, 2026 – UCANACT, a Dutch neurotechnology startup developing brain-computer interface technology for people with motor disabilities, has secured €800,000 in pre-seed funding. The investment round was led by LUMO Labs and Utrecht Holdings Seed Fund.
People living with severe motor disabilities caused by motor neuron disease, stroke, trauma and other conditions can lose the ability to speak independently. UCANACT is developing a brain-computer interface that translates brain signals directly into computer actions and speech that helps people communicate and interact with the world around them.
Built on decades of brain-computer interface research at UMC Utrecht, UCANACT combines advances in brain science, artificial intelligence and neurotechnology. Its technology is designed to enable independent communication at home through automated system training which minimizes the support required from technicians and caregivers.

The investment will be used for technical product development, clinical studies, market-access research and early commercialization activities. UCANACT will also expand its team with key hires to strengthen its technical capabilities and further develop its business strategy.
